How Social Media Platform-Swinging enhances Well-Being Among Filipino Older Adults

Social media has become a valuable tool for older adults to maintain social connections, cognitive engagement, and emotional well-being. However, the complex landscape of social media platforms presents a unique challenge for older adults. In-depth interviews were conducted to better understand their motivations for social media platform-swinging. Through the lens of Uses and Gratification Theory, this study explored how older adults leverage various platforms to meet their diverse needs and desires. Our findings reveal that older adults are active participants in the digital world, using social media platforms to stay connected and engaged, stay informed and expand knowledge, manage mood and ambiance, and support regular activities. They strategically swing between different platforms to optimize their social media experience and address their specific needs at different times, demonstrating their adaptability.
