  • The National Housing Authority (NHA) and the Local Government will turn over 433 houses on stilts to beneficiaries in Vale Vista Phase III in Kasanyangan on Thursday, September 7 as part of the activities commemorating the 2013 siege. Mayor Beng Climaco together with NHA General Manager Marcelino Escalada Jr. and Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) Chair Eduardo del Rosario will spearhead the turnover rites set to be held at the City Coliseum in Tetuan starting at 8am. The beneficiaries are mostly badjao temporarily residing in the different transitory sites and home-based and compose the last batch of occupants to Vale Vista phase III which has a total of 866 housing slots. The first batch of 433 beneficiaries was transferred last August 14. Based on records from the City Housing and Land Management Division (HLMD), only 29% of the total families occupying the transitory sites will be left behind after the turnover on Thursday. The 29% is equivalent to 1,800 families. 
  • Mayor Beng Climaco Tuesday afternoon led an ocular inspection of the City Reformatory Center in line with the planned transfer of the facility to a city-owned property in Talisayan that the LGU has offered to the BJMP. Before the inspection, the mayor, accompanied by Engr. Jojo Sicat of the Planning Office, Engr. Chris Navarro of the CEO, TFZ chief Col. Nicolas and 11th IB commander LTC Rolly Gomez met with Acting City Hail Warden J/Supt. Allan Vargas. Mayor Climaco assured the city’s support to the planned transfer stressing that security in the jail is the utmost concern for the safety and protection not only of the inmates but of the entire residents of the city.
  • The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) and the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) in partnership with the Ateneo de Zamboanga University (ADZU) will be holding the 3rd Mindanao Policy Research Forum on “Federalism as Policy Option for a Decentralized Inclusive Development: A Critical Inquiry” at the Carlos Dominguez Hall, ADZU from 9am to 5pm on Thursday, September 7, 2017. Among the guests and speakers expected are  MinDA Secretary Datu Abul Khayr Alonto, Senator Juan Miguel “Migz” F. Zubiri, PIDS President Dr. Gilbert Llanto, PIDS Senior Research Fellow Dr. Rosario Mansan and Mayor Ma. Isabelle G. Climaco-Salazar. The forum aims to promote inclusive and in-depth analysis of decentralization reforms particularly the proposed shift to a federal form of government. It will gather representatives from the academe, government agencies, local government units, private sector and civil society to discuss evidence-based policy researches on federalism and decentralization and gather the insights of local stakeholders. The guests will meet with members of the local media for a press conference from 12nn-1pm.
  • The Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR) is rushing up the construction of a new cell of the sanitary landfill (SLF) facility in Barangay Salaan as the city government prepares for the full implementation of the Ordinance 176, otherwise known as The Solid Waste Management Ordinance. Rodrigo Pagotaisidro announced at Monday’s press briefing that the present Cell No.1 of the sanitary landfill facility is almost filled up since it started operation two years ago. He said the city is presently dumping at least 170 tons of garbage every day into the facility, but more garbage have yet to be collected in the barangay level, thus the need for the solid waste management ordinance to be implemented. The project for the

construction of the second cell is now with the City Engineer’s Office and has already been bidded out.

  • Preparations for the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival are now fever pitch with only 26 days before the start of the festivities. The ZHF technical working group convenes Tuesday afternoon in line with the series of meetings it intends to conduct to consolidate and collaborate efforts to ensure a hassle-free and smooth sailing execution of the calendar of activities that will kick off October 1st
  • Mayor Beng Climaco presented PSSupt. Neri Ignacio, newly-installed Acting City Police Director City to Government officials and employees during the flag raising ceremony Monday morning. Ignacio vowed to do his best in the performance of his duties and responsibilities and to voluntarily RESIGN should he be found to be unproductive. Joining Ignacio during the City Hall flag raising rites was PSupt. Diomarie Albarico, former OIC ZCPO Director.
  • ZCWD ADVISORY: Water interruption is scheduled from 9am of Sept. 5 (Tuesday) to 12noon of Sept. 6 (Wednesday) due to replacement of 250mm diameter isolation valve at DMA 18 – Airman’s Village near Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High School, Gov.
