On October 17โ€“18, 2025, the Office of the Vice President for Basic Education, led by Mr Jeffrey O Jalani, in collaboration with the University Research Office (URO), successfully organized the Basic Education Research Writeshopโ€”an initiative aimed at enhancing the research competencies of faculty and staff across the Basic Education units. The sessions were facilitated by Ms Perla S Ledesma, URO Director, and Mr Gerald James Y Ebal, who shared their expertise in guiding participants through the research development process.

The writeshop gathered faculty and staff from the Grade School, Junior High School, and Senior High School Units who expressed their commitment to engaging in research. Throughout the two-day writeshop, participants presented their concept papers and received valuable feedback and guidance from the resource speakers to further enhance their work.

The final session featured the presentation of recently completed research studies that had undergone their final presentation with the URO, which included presentations from the Grade School team composed of Ms Nimfa F Mabalot, Ms Annabelle F Gonzales, and Ms Mercibel F Fegarido, as well as the research papers of Mr Kix Daryll F Alipala, Ms Baby Lyn V Tubilla, and Mr Eric D Tubo from Junior High School.

The Office of the Vice President for Basic Education extends its sincere appreciation to the principals for their unwavering support: Ms Elena B Segurigan (Grade School), Fr Roberto M Boholst SJ (Junior High School), and Ms Diane S Candido (Senior High School), as well as to the research coordinators, Ms Mercibel F Fegarido (Grade School), Ms Esther Q Mondido (Junior High School), and Ms Jenalyn G Manolis (Senior High School) for their active support and coordination.

As a result of the writeshop, thirteen (13) research proposals were developed and endorsed to the URO for further evaluation under the University Research Chair Program. This initiative marks a significant milestone in strengthening and nurturing a progressive research culture within the Basic Education community.
